History of the Houston Pathways

The Houston Pathways project started as a collaboration among Houston Community College, San Jacinto Community College District, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and  Cal-PASS in 2009. All partners realized the need to improve alignment between high school and college curriculum. With funding from the Houston Endowment, Houston Pathways project quickly expanded to include five school districts and the University of Houston System. In 2009, Houston Pathways partners signed a formal agreement to share student level data. Currently, the project is forming faculty vertical alignment teams. [ Back to top of Page]

Organization of Houston Pathways

The Houston Pathways Initiative consists of two local regions each having four faculty vertical alignment teams. Each local region has a Mathematics, English/Language Arts, U.S. History, and Biology faculty vertical alignment team.  The faculty vertical alignment teams will focus on preparing students for college, by aligning curriculum to meet College and Career Readiness Standards.

Update on Houston Pathways

The partners have completed signatures among the ISD, community college and university partners, and have finalized the contracts between Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Houston Community College and San Jacinto Community College.  Houston faculty vertical alignment teams are in the process of being formed and will be meeting for the first time in mid-November.  [ Back to top of Page]

The Houston Regional Coordinators

The local regional coordinators are the common bond between all pathways partners and the faculty vertical alignment teams. A regional coordinator’s job is to provide material support (e.g. supplies and meeting spaces) for faculty vertical alignment team members. They also organize team meetings, ensure communication between partners, and provide general advice for keeping teams focused on their goal of better alignment of high school and college curriculum.

The Houston Pathways project has three regional coordinators for each group of faculty vertical alignment teams.
